About This Role
Newmont’s Cripple Creek and Victor Mine is seeking a Drill and Blast engineer to design, implement, and optimize drilling and blasting operations at the CC&V mine, an open pit mining operation. You will work for CC&V’s Mine Technical Services department. This role involves planning and executing efficient and safe blast designs, monitoring drilling activities, and compiling drill and blast costs. You will collaborate with various departments to ensure that blasting operations meet production targets, safety standards, and environmental regulations.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $90,720- 124,700. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.

- Be responsible for your safety and the safety of your team members.
- Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness.
- Maintenance of a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness
- Blast Design and Planning: Develop and optimize blast designs that maximize rock fragmentation, minimize environmental impact, and ensure the safety of all personnel. This includes selecting appropriate drilling patterns, explosive types, and initiation sequences.
- Drilling Operations: Oversee drilling operations, ensuring that drill patterns are executed as planned and that drilling activities align with the blast design specifications.
- Explosive Management: Manage the procurement, storage, and handling of explosives in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Coordinate with suppliers and ensure proper documentation.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all drilling and blasting activities comply with safety regulations, industry best practices, and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Environmental Stewardship: Monitor the environmental impact of blasting operations, including vibration, noise, and fly rock, and implement measures to mitigate these effects. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data from drilling and blasting activities to monitor performance, optimize processes, and report on key metrics. Provide regular updates to management and other stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Work closely with geologists, mine planners, and other engineers to integrate drilling and blasting plans with overall mine operations. Support cross-functional teams to achieve production targets.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving drilling and blasting processes, reducing costs, and enhancing safety and efficiency. Stay updated with the latest industry technologies and techniques.
- Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to drilling and blasting crews to ensure proper execution of blast designs and adherence to safety protocols.
Here is what we need to see from you
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 2 years of experience in an open pit mining environment. Experience with blast design software and modern drilling technologies is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with mine planning software is essential.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure and adapt to changing conditions in the field.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical team members.
- Ability to work directly with others.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- This role is based in the United States at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County, Colorado. The mine is at an altitude up to 10,400 above sea level.
- This position is 100% site based, however additional work may be required outside of the normal site schedule as business needs require.
- The position is based at site on a roster Monday-Thursday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
