Your Impact
The Lead Head of Health & Safety, Exploration – Americas is responsible for leading site-based Health & Safety (H&S) teams across multiple countries, ensuring the effective implementation of integrated risk management processes across all projects and operational sites. This role provides strategic leadership, resources, and guidance to foster a safety-first culture and drive continuous improvement in H&S practices.
This position supports a cross-functional approach to risk management, working closely with the Head of Delivery – Americas, regional Exploration Managers, business partners, and vendors to ensure health and safety standards are embedded throughout near-mine exploration, brownfield activities, and project execution.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $126,480- 166,005. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.

This position supports a cross-functional approach to risk management, working closely with the Head of Delivery – Americas, regional Exploration Managers, business partners, and vendors to ensure health and safety standards are embedded throughout near-mine exploration, brownfield activities, and project execution.
As part of our team, you will
- Participate in the development of the Exploration health and safety strategies, and practices focusing on exposure to fatality and injury risks.
- Provide professional oversight, technical guidance, training and support to a portfolio of exploration projects.
- Design the integration of existing and future health and safety standards that are identified through risk assessment.
- Provide strategic safety subject matter expertise on exploration project initiatives through all project life cycle phases.
- Participate in the health, safety and security assurance activities including actions, outcomes and lessons learned.
- Review end-to-end processes to identify innovation or technology efficiency opportunities
- 10-15 years in a Senior Health and Safety role with extensive experience in Major Project Construction.
- Experience in leading and managing large Global Health and Safety teams.
- Experience working on complex contracts and EPC/M project environments.
- Demonstrated excellence in technical knowledge of Health and Safety principles.
- Detailed knowledge and experience in conducting risk assessments and audit processes.
- Experience in implementing robust H&S processes in newly established and existing project teams.
- Ability to lead, coach and support the site leadership team on Health and Safety matters
- Ability to engage and influence key stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety and health requirements and Newmont’s goal of ensuring a fatality, injury, and illness free workplace.
- Facilitate and participate in risk assessments, support the development, implementation and ongoing review of the site H&S Risk Register and Control Plans.
- Provide interpretation and guidance on the application of Health and Safety Legislation which is applicable to the site.
- While this role offers some flexibility, preference will be given to candidates based in Canada, or in Denver, close to our Corporate Office. This proximity will facilitate collaboration with key stakeholders and enhance engagement with regional and corporate teams.

- This position will lead a team of five direct reports, providing strategic direction and oversight to ensure the effective implementation of health and safety initiatives across the Americas.
