Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Technician 18 years of age or older to join our team for some weekdays and some weekends, depending on schedule needs. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and be responsible for the well-being of pets in our facility. This role involves providing high-quality care to dogs and cats, ensuring their safety, comfort, and health while they are in our care. You must also exhibit politeness and professionalism when interacting with volunteers and donors, and practice good communication.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, providing fresh water, giving medications, scooping litterboxes, light training, and letting dogs out in the yards for potty breaks.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels and common areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment, and following the routine cleaning schedule.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to management.
- Handle animals safely and effectively, utilizing proper restraint techniques when necessary.
- Assist with reinforcing positive behaviors.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks related to cleaning and moving supplies or equipment.
- Engage with volunteers
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of both animals and staff.
Requirements
- Previous experience in animal care or pet sitting is required.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks (lifting dog and cat food, litter, etc.) as required by the job.
- Knowledge of pet grooming and medical practices is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with team members.
- A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their welfare.
- Ability to work flexible hours, and holidays as needed. This is an absolute must.
