Position Summary
Newnan Utilities is seeking a full-time Water Plant & Control Room Operator to assist with operating the water treatment plant in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations to ensure the safe operations of water treatment, distribution, storage, and lift stations. Additional responsibilities include general maintenance of facilities, equipment, process controls, plant housekeeping, lab testing, Control Room operations, customer service, and SCADA monitoring.
Essential Responsibilities
- Responsible for tasks related to the efficient operations, sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations that govern water treatment and wastewater operations
- Monitor the SCADA systems for any changes that may affect the plant processes such as pressure changes, chemical pumps faulting out, distribution storage tank levels, chemical tank levels, turbidity levels, and filter function
- Make chemical and water flow adjustments, and change chlorine cylinders as needed
- Interact with customers and staff in a professional and courteous manner via telephone to provide support and information regarding services including service issues and outages
- Determine priority, submit appropriate service orders, and dispatch crews as needed for service issues
- Maintain, monitor, and check equipment to ensure proper operation and calibration necessary to operate facilities and systems
- Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled repairs and maintenance on plant equipment and machinery
- Collect water samples to perform laboratory analysis such as pH, turbidity, chlorine levels, fluoride levels, dissolved oxygen levels, Alkalinity, Iron, Manganese, and records test results in required logs
- Complete administrative duties such as recording test results, completing forms, various paperwork, updating logs, and data entry
- Perform other related duties as assigned

- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Qualifications
Experience
- 0-3 years’ experience in the utility industry (water, sewerage, electric)
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
License | Certifications
- Valid State Driver’s License
- Georgia Water Operator Class III License or attain within 1 year from date of hire
- MEAG Power Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Qualified Operator Certification or attain within 1 year from date of hire
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or attain within 1 year from date of hire

- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to adapt and learn new computer programs and software
- Knowledge of water treatment practices and procedures including Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
Working Conditions
Environment
- Must work inside and outside in all weather and environmental conditions
- Exposure to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, and hazardous chemicals
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, mud, insects, and animals
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (day & night rotations)
- Requires days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- May require on-call and/or rotational stand-by as needed
Physical Requirement
- Ability to perform moderate physical work
- Ability to perform activities such as:
- Occasional bending/kneeling/crouching
- Occasional standing
- Frequent walking/sitting
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs
