The Newport County YMCA is hiring a part-time instructor for Life Skills, an afterschool enrichment program serving those students in middle school and high school who benefit from smaller staff to student ratios. Our curriculum focuses on reinforcement of functional skills and daily physical activity.
The instructor is responsible for supporting the lead instructor in implementing daily curriculum activities, maintaining a safe, professional, and enriching daily environment for participants, adhering to Y policies and codes of conduct, communicating with families, and providing direct support to individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical differences. If you have a passion for working with youth of all abilities, we would love to meet you. Afternoon availability is a must. Program hours are M-F 1:30-5:30pm.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills and experience in caregiving
- Proficient in assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and autism
- Knowledge of special education practices and behavior management techniques
Physical Demands
- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
