What are the responsibilities and job description for the HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR/ED TECH - ED/ACU FLOAT position at Newport Hospital and Health Services?
Primary Scheduled Hours: Variable, 12-hour shifts. 72 hours per pay period
Job Summary:
Provides direct patient care in the Emergency Department. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff, and medical staff. Implements directions from the physicians and nursing staff. Handles clerical duties on nursing unit, including answering telephones, relaying messages, keeping records and directing visitors. May assist in patient care and order supplies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.
- Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
- Takes specimens to the laboratory.
- Orders supplies. Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Interacts professionally with patients and their families and provides explanations and verbal reassurances as necessary.
Education Background and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education:
High school graduate of equivalent.
Nursing Assistant Certified
Required Licensure / Certifications:
Active Nursing Assistant Certified Washington license.
Required Experience:
Nursing Assistant Certified experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year experience in an Emergency Department hospital preferred.

- Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
- Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.
