What are the responsibilities and job description for the REHAB AIDE position at Newport Hospital and Health Services?
Primary Scheduled Hours: Per Diem
Job Summary: Under the supervision of a therapist or therapy Assistant, performs only delegated, selected or routine tasks and/or specific situations. These duties include preparing the patient and/or modalities, and the treatment area. Performs clerical duties when needed. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assists in preparing patients and equipment for therapy. Cleans treatment areas and stores equipment. Maintains department in orderly and prepared condition. May also transport patients, assist patients in crutch ambulation, and schedule appointments if trained to do so.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists patients to dress, undress, and put on and remove supportive devices, such as braces, splints and slings, before and after treatments.
- Secures patients into or onto therapy equipment.
- Ability to monitor vital signs, maintains adequate knowledge base regarding cardiovascular and respiratory precautions for the patient undergoing physical medicine services and treatments.
- Observes patients during treatment, noting patients' responses and progress, and reports to treating therapist.
- Communicates any changes in condition (physical or mental) to treating therapist, nursing and other hospital staff, as appropriate.
- Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
- Transports patients according to scheduled appointment time, maintains compliance with safety policies during transport at all times.
- Creates daily written schedule and documents patient set-ups for the next day.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies, if asked to chart under direction of the therapist. Records QMM’s in accordance with departmental policy.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Education Background and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Required Experience:
Satisfactory completion of Rehab Aide Competency Evaluation and job training.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recommended, minimum of one (1) year experience as a Therapy Aide.
Professional Requirements:
- Maintain regulatory requirements
- Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
- Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation in increments increases annually.
