THE VACANCY:

There is currently one vacancies located at:
 
  • College Park Elementary School, working 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year.*

NOTE: The ability to speak Spanish* is required for some locations. When there is a vacancy with this skill needed, a bilingual proficiency exam is part of the examination process and a 2.5% bilingual stipend would be added to the base pay at time of hire.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director, Health Services, provide a variety of health services at a District site; prepare and maintain related records, files and reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience involving general office work. Experience in a health care service environment is desirable.
 
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency must be obtained within probationary period.

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.
 
An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

Examinations and interviewing for creating the eligible list will be conducted virtually using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with an internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software. 

The virtual written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 24th. All who are successful with the written test will be invited to the virtual qualifications appraisal interview (oral exam) which is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 31st. You will be notified via email, as indicated on your application, regarding your ability to participate in the examination phase of the recruitment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provide a variety of health services for students; assist in the evaluation and documentation of student health complaints; determine appropriate action to be taken; maintain related records using a computerized system.
 
Screen student complaints to report medical conditions; take and record temperatures; assist asthmatic students needing breathing treatments; provide ice packs and administer first aid to students.
 
Under direction of School Nurse, administer prescribed medications according to physician instructions and established District procedures as directed; maintain related records.
 
Communicate with parents, health care providers, other departments and the assigned school nurse regarding student condition and care.
 
Identify students needing immunizations and Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (CHDP) physicals; maintain updated immunization and CHDP records of exams and testing; send follow-up notices to parents; maintain list of students with incomplete immunization records or exemptions; assist families with immunization compliance issues.
 
Prepare for and organize health screenings including, but not limited to, vision, dental and hearing screening for students; follow up on health care provider referrals; maintain related records; track medication authorizations, orders and expirations.
 
Process incoming records on new students and update health-related information on currently enrolled students; verify compliance with state regulations for immunizations and CHDP physicals; assist with the compilation and distribution of confidential health problem list; update student waiver listings as required.
 
Assist with specialized medical needs for disabled students; monitor blood sugar levels of diabetic students and advise parents as necessary; respond to seizures and administer emergency seizure medication such as Diastat, perform catheterizations and perform other specialized health care procedures as required; check pulse oxygen levels and administer inhalers or nebulizers for students, under the direction of the school nurse; notify teachers of student activity restrictions as required.
 
Order health office supplies as needed; refill classroom first aid kits; maintain the health office in a clean, orderly and safe condition; prepare, coordinate and organize medications and authorizations for field trips, science camps and other special events.
 
Maintain order and discipline in student health office; issue health office passes to students; maintain log of students visiting the health office.
 
Instruct students on proper personal hygiene; attend to students needing assistance with changing clothes and using the restroom; check students for head lice as directed and notify parents of results.
 
Perform routine clerical duties such as filing, typing, answering phones, preparing student records, sending faxes and duplicating materials.
 
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer.
 
Assist in the documentation of accidents.
 
Attend and participate in various meetings and conferences related to assigned activities.
