THE VACANCY:
This recruitment is open and promotional, which means that all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams.

There are currently five vacancies:

  • Four are located at College Park, Killybrooke, Rea, & Whittier Elementary-Project Kidz Connect (working 6 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year). The hours for this position are 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
  • One will support the implementation of the Expanded Learning Opportunity Program and can be assigned to various elementary schools throughout the district (working 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year). The hours for these positions are 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
NOTE: The ability to speak Spanish is required for all locations. A bilingual proficiency exam is part of the examination process for those candidates who selected an interest in testing for this particular skill. A 2.5% bilingual stipend would be added to the base pay at time of hire, where needed.

An eligibility list for this classification (with or without the bilingual skill) will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned Administrator, oversee and provide guidance in the coordination of Extended Day Program operations at assigned sites; assist with approved academic and enrichment class activities; provide a safe and nurturing environment for student achievement; train, support and provide guidance to Extended Day Program personnel; and related work as required.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years' experience working with children in an educational, recreational or child care setting.
 
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver’s license.
Valid First Aid/CPR certification.

Written/Oral Translation (English/Spanish): Qualifying where needed 
Written Examination (NCLB Testing): 50%
Qualifications Appraisal Interview: 50%
 
The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list. 

Examinations and interviewing for creating the eligible list will be conducted virtually using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with an internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.

The virtual written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of February 3rd. The virtual qualifications appraisal interview (oral exam) is tentatively scheduled for week of February 10th You will be notified via email, as indicated on your application, regarding your ability to participate in the examination phase of the recruitment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Oversee and provide guidance to assigned staff in the coordination of Extended Day Program operations at multiple assigned sites; serve as liaison between extended day site staff, the Director and/or Coordinator and Site Principal; prepare, organize and maintain site instructional materials to support staff and promote students learning.
 
Monitor and coordinate extended day programs at assigned sites; assure compliance with Program policies and procedures; implement approved academic and enrichment activities for students.
 
Train and provide work direction to assigned personnel; provide input and assistance in the selection and evaluation of new staff; prepare work schedules for assigned staff; adjust staff schedules as needed; review assigned staff time cards and report tardiness to program director.
 
Communicate with parents, administrators, principals, personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
 
Perform instructional assistant duties in the absence of assigned staff.
 
Assist in the collection, preparation and maintenance of screening and assessment data.
 
Prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs, reports, notes and files; compose email correspondence independently.
 
Assist in managing budget at assigned site; inventory and order supplies for assigned sites; submit purchase orders and receipt reimbursements to administration.
 
Monitor and manage extended day program attendance database; review attendance sheets for accuracy.
 
Support and ensure timely pick up of all students at assigned sites and assist staff with resolving issues of students left after center closes.
 
Monitor students in program activities and perform recess supervision guiding students into safe play activities.
 
Assist students to develop communication skills and serve as an appropriate language model.
 
Perform routine first aid and seek assistance for non-routine illnesses or injuries; assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures.
 
Participate in staff meetings and attend in-services as required.
 
Maintain classroom in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition.
 
Operate a variety of audio-visual, office and instructional equipment.
 
Drive a vehicle to conduct work and to travel to assigned school sites.

Operate a variety of standard office equipment, including a computer and appropriate software. Perform clerical duties related to classroom activities.
Monitor and evaluate student progress.
Organize and disperse instructional materials.
Lead, encourage and support assigned extended day program staff.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures.
