JOB DESCRIPTION: Manages the JROTC program according to school rules, regulations, and customs.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Applicant must be an Army Noncommissioned Officer retired from active duty who is listed on the Certified Instructor list at the U.S. Army Cadet Command;
Meet Rhode Island educator certificate requirements for Army JROTC teachers. Specifically, hold a current and valid Army JROTC Instructor teaching certificate to provide ROTC instruction in Rhode Island public schools (Office of Educator Quality and Certification policy change, August 2012);
Evidence of competence in instruction and knowledge of the U.S. Army JROTC Program;
Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;
Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, teaching experience, and the interview process;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may find acceptable and appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advises the director of the laws and regulations affecting the program;
Maintains good relations with the school administration, faculty, and student body;
Drafts and implements procedures relating to enrollment efforts, administration, control, and training of JROTC cadets in coordination with the principal;
Conducts academic instruction in accordance with the prescribed U.S. Army Program of Instruction;
Establishes the rules and orders relating to JROTC instruction and training in coordination with the principal;
Initiates, designs, implements, and evaluates programs to meet specific school, student and staff needs;
Conducts a public affairs program in local areas for school and community officials, civic groups, and parent-teacher groups;
Attends and supervises cadets at school, community, and JROTC functions;
Implements the Army JROTC LET Curriculum provided by the Army in coordination with school authorities;
Maintains, distributes and secures all JROTC equipment and materials in accordance with U.S. Army and school regulations;
Supervises Drill Team, Rifle Team, and related JROTC activities;
Ensures that all Army and school equipment and uniforms are properly maintained and accounted for;
Participates in summer and weekend JROTC training programs;
Prepares budget requests and initiates and monitors expenditures in accordance with established policies and procedures;
Supervises and evaluates the Assistant Army Instructor in accordance with U.S. Army regulations;
Prepares or supervises the preparation of all reports, records, lists, and other required documentation;
Participates in applicable committees and work groups as necessary or directed by the principal;
Performs such other duties as assigned by the Director of the Newport Area Career and Technical Center.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers’ Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.
