Job Duties
To understand and observe all of Carroll Concrete Co., Newport Sand & Gravel Co., Inc.’s policies and procedures including but not limited to the Employee Handbook,Training Manual, Safety Manual, SAFE Policy and Drug Free Work Place Manual.
Summary
The Pump Operator is responsible for servicing the local and potentially extended areas. Jobs range from contractor run jobsites to federal contracts. It is the responsibility of the Pump Operator to communicate clearly and effectively with all customers to ensure safe and efficient use of time to complete the job. It is also important for the Pump Operator to work closely and effectively with other drivers and Dispatch to ensure timely delivery and execution of each job.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
1. Pre-trip inspection of concrete pumps pursuant to DOT regulations. Pre-trip inspection includes checking fluid levels of engine oil, antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes and other driver operated controls such as hydraulic systems, line systems, and hydraulics.
2. Fills water tank before each project by placing rubber hose into water tank and filling after checking that all valves are shut.
3. Safely drives to project site that is assigned.
4. Uses map and experience and takes most direct route to job site to ensure on time service.
5. Safely drives concrete pump into site and works with contractor or homeowner to set up pump in a safe position.
6. Pump concrete pursuant to customer desire with respect to yards per hour in the safest manner.
7. Upon completion, operator will clean out pump systems in the project where desired by contractor or homeowner, in an environmentally responsible manner.
8. Keep pump dispatch informed as to the status of projects via two-way radio, digital pagers and cellular phones, if available.
9. Prior to leaving the site, driver is responsible for completing all paperwork.
10. If not running a pump, operator may be asked to work around the plant/yard, clean and maintain pump, assist at a batch or other duties as necessary.
11. Understand and observe Carroll Concrete Company’s policies and procedures.
12. Collect payment from customer, if necessary.
Desired Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certificates,Licenses and Registrations:
1. Must have a valid CDL Class B Driver License and driving record within the tolerable insurability limits (Carroll Concrete Company’s discretion).
Driver must be able to operator manual truck, no automatic restriction
2. American Concrete Pumping Association Certification – Preferred.
Skills:
1. Dependable, team oriented, exceptional communicator, patient/calm, ethical, adaptable, understanding, professional, and be an independent/decision maker.
2. Must be punctual and reliable.
3. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
4. Common sense and good judgement and willingness to work.
5. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
6. Pump truck maintenance experience, preferred.
7. Communicate with customer the best way to get the job done most efficiently and safely
8. Must safely operate pump truck and perform tasks that are congruent with Company policy and within state and federal laws.
Restrictions:
1. Must be able to work flexible hours as necessary.
2. Must be able to get in and out of the truck in a safe manner.
3. Manipulate all truck controls safely and accurately.
4. Must lift or maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds multiple times throughout the workday.
Other Comments:
1. Must pass DOT (Department of Transportation) physical as well as federally mandated alcohol and drug testing requirements.
2. Must be able to perform other taxes as directed by Management.
Part of the Pump Operator’s job will be “other” tasks/duties as assigned or as necessary.
