What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anchor position at News-Press & Gazette Company?
The main anchor will review and present newscasts to viewers, produce & write special reports, represent station and community events, and produce if needed. KVIA-TV in El Paso/Las Cruces is a legacy station – we are looking for a newsroom leader, excellent communicator and a journalist who develops contacts and breaks stories.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Anchor evening newscasts (5pm, 6pm & 10pm)
- Write and copy edit newscast scripts
- Write and deliver news teases
- Write and record radio updates for local radio station
- Keep abreast of current local, national, and international news
- Coach producers, reporters in storytelling, showcasing, balance, and ethics
- Research, write and present special reports
- Offer well-researched story ideas during editorial meetings
- Keep in touch with the community and the type of stories that are helpful to viewers
- Represent the station at public events and meetings
- Write, produce & edit packages and special reports
- Produce newscasts if needed
- Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:
- Solid written and verbal communications skills
- Good presentation skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
- Must have at least 5 years' experience as an anchor & reporter
- Job is contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and background check
