News-Press TV, LLC, of St. Joseph, Mo., operates a cluster of television stations that broadcast live news on the FOX, NBC, and CBS affiliates and a 24/7 news and weather channel.
News-Press NOW St. Joseph is looking for a hardworking meteorologist/MMJ to join our Storm Tracker weather team to provide comprehensive weekend weather coverage and report on weather/news stories three days per week.
In the event of impactful or severe weather, the weekend meteorologist/MMJ will provide supplemental coverage on and off camera with the evening meteorologist on duty. The weekend meteorologist/MMJ will also fill in as needed during the week when other meteorologists are off work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produces and presents weather/news reports for all platforms.
- Writes and delivers weather/news stories in a clear and concise manner.
- Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming and other content.
- Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
- Works closely with the weather team to deliver comprehensive weather coverage.
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
- Writes web stories detailing the local forecast.
- The MMJ part of the job includes reporting three days a week.
- Posts content on digital platforms and social media.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of meteorological principles, weather analysis, and forecasting techniques.
- Ability to shoot video and edit stories.
- Experience in using social media platforms to engage with viewers and provide weather updates.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
