Summary: |
|||
NCE lifeguards and swim instructors are responsible for supervising children, ages 5-14 in the indoor pool complex at Newton North High School, as well as for fulfilling other duties to support camp when aquatics work is not required. They are passionate about providing campers a fun and safe experience while recreating in the pool or taking swimming lessons. They are obsessed with safety; organized, flexible and able to problem-solve; calm under pressure; effective communicators with adults, fellow lifeguards and counselors and campers; hard working; and have experience working with children in an aquatics setting. |

Qualifications: |

? Massachusetts Lifeguard certification ? Experience working with children, preferably in an aquatics setting ? Excellent problem-solving & communication skills ? Positive, collaborative, and flexible ? Ability to commit to full duration of work ? Clean CORI/SORI/fingerprint background check ? Consistent, reliable and punctual ? Able to maintain attention and a high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time |

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To): |
|||
Campers and Program ? Available to participate in the mandatory NCE summer staff orientation on Saturday, June 21, 2025, and any other planning meetings leading up to camp ? Monitoring each swimmer in the water and on the pool deck and initiating and resolving safety protocols proactively ? Supervising campers in the locker room before and after swimming lessons (if applicable) and during camp swim times ? Transitioning campers from morning swimming lessons to their camp program (if applicable) ? Knowing and enforcing pool rules and norms ? Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous situations ? Instructing swim lessons and (when applicable) ? Maintaining a clean pool environment ? Help to create a fun, engaging and safe pool space for all campers ? Mandatory attendance at the NCE summer staff orientation and any other planning meetings leading up to camp ? Arrive 15 minutes before the start of camp each day and stay for 15 minutes after the day ends Pay Rate: $18-20/hour Typical daily camp hours: 8:15-3:45 pm. Lifeguards are paid based on attendance. If you are unable to work, you will not be paid for the day. You will be paid for breaks and lunch. ? The final hourly rate will be communicated by the Summer Program Coordinator |
