INVESTIGATOR, DISTRICT ATTORNEY (2416)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to conduct criminal investigations for the District Attorney's Office.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude
them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other
duties may be required and assigned.
Investigates crimes: obtains police reports, crime scene reports, crime lab reports, complaints, petitions, citations,
photos, audio recordings, video recordings, written statements, phone records, medical records, and other
accounts of crimes committed; reviews those items for probable cause, for evidence of crimes committed, for
witnesses needed for court, and for potential problems in proving the case; compiles an investigative report to
summarize events and all parties' roles in the case; visits the crime scene, if necessary, and gathers additional
evidence, photos, or measurements, or creates sketches; ensures that required analysis of evidence has been
completed; reviews current law for changes that may have a bearing on case presentation; prepare copies for
defense attorneys in discovery; obtains criminal histories on witnesses, victims, and defendants; and assists other
agencies as assigned.
Coordinates with Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs): meets with ADAs to review case files and determine what
investigation is needed; assists ADAs with witness and victim interviews, in the office and in the field; and helps
formulate case and courtroom strategies.
Coordinates and communicates with law enforcement personnel and agencies: obtains property or evidence
needed for court; interviews law enforcement officers, investigators, and other personnel regarding their role in
the investigation; and delivers subpoenas to the same at least 24 hours prior to any court hearing.
Coordinates and communicates with the victims and witnesses: confirms identity of witnesses and victims; secures
current identification photos; determines current location of witnesses and victims; interviews witnesses or
victims; hand-delivers subpoenas for court; conducts background and criminal history checks on potential
witnesses; locates witnesses that have moved or are resisting contact; and transports witnesses or victims to and
from court as needed.

Attends court and participates in court activities: attends court and participates in the prosecution of cases;
coordinates with law enforcement personnel, victims and witnesses regarding their testimony; ensures that any
and all evidence needed for court is properly prepared and made available; assists ADAs in presentation of the
case in court; testifies on investigative actions and findings; prepares exhibits for court; and assists in presentation
of exhibits in court.
Participates in tactical teams: participates in team actions to serve subpoenas, search warrants, and arrest
warrants; attends practice and training sessions to achieve and maintain the required proficiency with weapons;
maintains assigned equipment; attends specialized tactical training programs; makes arrests when required; and
serves on protection details for witnesses, victims, and staff.
Supervises defendants in Pre-Trial Diversion and Intervention Program (PTDIP): coordinates and facilitates PTDIP
contractual agreement with prosecutors, defense attorneys and defendants; provides information and answers
questions regarding contract requirements, such as completing required classes, community service and paying
program fees; monitors defendants during contract term; ensures completion of required objectives; provides
progress reports to prosecutors about defendants; and confirms accuracy of information provided by defendant.
Supervises defendants released from custody on bond with remote surveillance monitoring system: reviews
defendant’s conditions of bond, such as curfew, allowed and prohibited locations, etc.; utilizes monitoring
databases to ensure defendant complies with conditions of bond; coordinates with defense attorney's and
monitoring company for scheduled events outside of conditions of bond; coordinates with local law enforcement
regarding violations; participates in locating and arresting violators as needed; and assists ADA's in preparing
orders for bond and for arrest in the case of violations of bond.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated
timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards or retains,
as appropriate, various forms, reports, correspondence, police reports, investigative summaries, case files, crime
scene and crime lab reports and diagrams, various forensic reports, court records and documents, witness
statements and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department
reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database,
presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to
complete essential functions.
Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains
vehicle, law enforcement equipment, audio and visual equipment, and other equipment.
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, local, state and federal law enforcement, court officials
and staff, victims, witnesses, defendants, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities,
review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with electronic evidence is preferred, including writing search warrants for social
media and phone records, analysis of such records, and using such records in investigations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED is required, with some vocational or technical training in law enforcement or criminal

justice; supplemented by three years of experience in criminal investigations or law enforcement; or any
equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and
abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must
possess and maintain the following additional certifications or licensures: Georgia Peace Officer Standards and
Training (POST), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and George Crime Information Center (GCIC)
certifications.
