PRIMARY PURPOSE:

School Nutrition Program activities involved in the preparation and service of food and the clean-up of the kitchen and serving areas.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent GED.
  2. Previous food service experience, preferred.
  3. Physical activities including lifting up to 50 lbs. several times per day. Standing more than 80% of the work day on hard floor surfaces. Frequent bending, stooping and having hands in water.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  1. Ability to handle and use cleaning and sanitizing chemicals including aerosol chemicals.
  2. Ability to acclimate to extreme temperatures ranging from extremely hot to sub-zero.
  3. Operates equipment that poses possible risk, loss or injury.
  4. Ability to follow written and verbal directions in English.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

 

FOOD PREPARATION

  1. Understands and follows standardized recipes.
  2. Meets and follows all food handling standards (temperatures, hand washing, gloves, hairnets, etc.)

FOOD SERVICE

  1. Follows proper portion control requirements.
  2. Meets all serving schedule deadlines.
  3. Assures that food is attractively served.
  4. Ensures that hot and cold foods are served at the appropriate temperature.

FOOD STORAGE

  1. Rotates stock using the FIFO method.
  2. Dates all food items on the date received.
  3. Covers, labels and dates prepared and opened food. Dates include preparation, frozen and use by dates.
  4. Records food, refrigerator and freezer and dry storage temperatures appropriately.

SAFETY AND SANITATION

  1. Assures equipment and work area are cleaned, sanitized and stocked prior to end of shift.
  2. Utilizes and stores cleaning chemicals correctly.
  3. Complies with all food safety program guidelines including food service health regulations and HACCP standards.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TEAM WORK

  1. Displays a positive, cooperative attitude to customers.
  2. Promotes effective working relationships and works as part of the team.

COST CONSCIOUSNESS

  1. Utilizes resources, supplies and time effectively and efficiently.
  2. Follows money-handling procedures.

PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Participates in training, in-service and other learning opportunities.
  3. Demonstrates ability to work in other areas (cross-trained).
  4. Adheres to SNP approved dress code and personal hygiene standards.
  5. Preforms other duties as assigned.
  6. Completes all job duties accurately following all local, state and federal regulations.
