SUMMARY: This position provides an opportunity for an energetic and highly organized teacher of visual art to teach a comprehensive array of 2D & 3D visual art in grades K-5.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer/media arts experience (including iPads)
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-years’ experience teaching elementary visual art
- Experience with Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS)
- Experience with kiln operation with automated kiln sitter
- Maintains artistic endeavors and art making in any medium
- Broad knowledge of visual art history
- Experience collaborating with fine arts and academic colleagues
- Experience exhibiting student artwork
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- The candidate appointed to this position will
- Work in collaboration with building colleagues and citywide visual art teachers to maintain citywide visual art curriculum and assessment practices
- Maintain student art exhibits in designated areas throughout the school and at the Newton Education Center, and other community venues when appropriate
- Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
- Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed

Work Environment: Majority of work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The teacher is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.
