Reports To: School Principal
The Athletic Director position is to provide leadership to the staff of the Athletic Department. The Athletic Director position provides program development, scheduling games, scheduling transportation, equipment inventory, and prepares an annual budget for the Athletic Department.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Proper DESE licensure is required
- CPR certification
- Ability to organize and supervise all levels of sports programs
- Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Essential Job Duties:
- Complies with school and MIAA policies and regulations
- Complies with school and Conference/League policies and regulations
- Works cooperatively with the school staff
- Hire, manage, and evaluate Athletic Department staff
- Relates positively to parents and other community representatives
- Completes required records and reports with promptness and accuracy
- Responsible for a safe environment for student athletes
- Models positive behaviors, especially with regard to sportsmanship and the alcohol, tobacco and drug rules
- Schedules and heads department meetings
- Acts as liaison person in relating the athletic program to the staff, administration, general public, and local news media
- Manage the Athletic Department annual budget
- Responsible for care of equipment and facilities
- Coordinates scheduling of practices and games during each season
- Observes and supervises on-site and off-site practices and games, which may be during the school day, but often is outside of the regularly scheduled school day.
- Attend meetings of local and state athletic organizations
- Schedules all busses, referees, facilities, and other needs for practices and games
- Mediate conflicts between parents and/or students and coaches
- Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed.
Work Environment: Much of the work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. The remainder of the work is performed on athletic fields and athletic facilities.
Physical Requirements: This is a position that requires stamina and endurance to be available from the beginning of the school day until the last student leaves the last practice or game in the evening. While performing the duties of this job, the Athletic Director is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The Athletic Director is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The Athletic Director is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building and on nearby athletic fields and facilities.
