Advocate for patient safety as part of an empowered team by adhering to stringent standards. Assist the Pharmacy in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment on patient care areas, when needed. Assist the Pharmacist in more complex batch preparations according to a predetermined recipe. Assist the Pharmacist or Department in more complex record keeping and report generation. Essential Job Duties
Greets patient, visitors and employees in a courteous manner. Answer telephones promptly in a clear and courteous manner.
Oversees workflow activity of all technicians. Set up or make daily plan to assure all work is done on time. Prepares and labels medication for delivery/transport to Patient Care Units and dispensing to outpatients in accordance with established procedures under supervision of Registered Pharmacist. Fills unit dose orders, carts, inpatient medications, emergency medications and outpatient prescriptions. Prepares batches of sterile and non-sterile products according to a recipe prepared by a pharmacist; and repackage medication when needed.
Pick up requisition, other pharmacy form, unused or partially used medication, and other designated pharmacy item for the floors as scheduled or assigned by the pharmacist or supervisor. Assist Pharmacist in reconciling and crediting medications returns.
Reviews patient profiles for missing or refill medication. Using a computer keyboard generates reports using standardized report format. Update patient census.
Responsible for the organizing the work effort to insure cleanliness and organization of the workplace as well as the patient care areas. May direct the work of other technicians. Prepares carts for filling including the preparation of name tags and other appropriate labels and replacing and cleaning drawers. Process updates and transfers in the medication carts prior to or at the time of delivery. Delivers/transports medication as assigned by the pharmacist or supervisor. Delivers/transports (as appropriate) stock medications, unit dose carts, outpatient prescriptions, IV medications, sterile products, and controlled substances.
Deliver to offsite patient care area or pharmacy.
Responsible for insuring that adequate and appropriate stock medications and supplies are available for their areas of responsibility. Orders, receives, unpacks, and store drugs and supplies in accordance with established procedures and storage requirements. Informs Registered Pharmacist of stock needs and of differences noted in products received. Monitors expiration dates and rotates stock
Performs other job related duties as required
This is a full time position working day flex.
Required Criteria:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- At least 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience
