The Lang Youth Medical Program is a six-year medical pipeline program for students in grades 7-12 from Northern Manhattan in Community School District 6 (CSD6) and Community School Districts 9 &10 (CSD 9&10) in the Bronx in the Division of Community and Population Health. The Program focuses on fostering and promoting an interest in careers in healthcare and public health.
Program Manager – Lang Youth Medical Program - Columbia
The Program Manager oversees all program activities and events, providing hands-on leadership and direction to staff regarding program initiatives, productivity, and reporting. They collaborate with leadership and community partners to strategically develop program goals and create actionable roadmaps to achieve them. This role is integral to ensuring the program delivers high-quality services, achieves strategic goals, and fosters meaningful relationships with stakeholders, all while upholding the mission and values of the organization. The Program Manager’s role includes the following: Recruit, select, and orient employees for assigned areas. Provide work direction, assign and schedule tasks, conduct on-the-job training, and address job-related questions. Monitor performance and attendance, conduct performance evaluations, and recommend personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary measures, up to and including termination. Interpret, develop, and implement hospital personnel and departmental policies and procedures. Supervise and coordinate program staff with a focus on delivering exceptional service and advancing the program’s mission and philosophy. Ensure optimal staff utilization to promote quality care and align with program goals. Communicate and implement the program’s philosophy, policies, and procedures effectively to staff. Represent the program at professional meetings and conferences, engaging with internal and external stakeholders. Build, foster, and manage relationships with community organizations, institutional partners, and key stakeholders. Provide day-to-day budget oversight, reconcile accounts, analyze reports, and recommend opportunities for improvement. Perform all duties inherent to a managerial role, including hiring, training, evaluating, and, when necessary, terminating staff according to hospital policies and procedures.
Preferred Criteria
- Comprehensive knowledge of K-12 education systems and pedagogical practices
- Management experience supporting diverse teams
- Strong understanding of structural racism and social determinants/drivers of health
- Spanish bilingual
Required Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience, 2 years in a supervisory capacity
- Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation
- Experience working in a community setting
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills and a high degree of flexibility
- Ability to function independently and with minimal supervision
