What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President - Internal Communications position at NewYork-Presbyterian?
Position Summary
In support of the Communications vision, the Vice President will lead the development and execution of the company's Internal Communication strategy, working closely with senior executives and key stakeholders to ensure that all messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with business goals.
Manages the Communications staff and content experts to ensure that strategies are successfully executed across multiple communication channels and across all sites. Ensures that specific messages are aligned with the Hospital’s vision and with other messages. In addition, works with content experts to develop key messages and spearheads Communications Campaigns throughout the enterprise.
Essential Job Duties
- Works with Hospital leadership to develop Hospital-wide Communications strategies, including but not limited to organizational announcements, town hall remarks, HR communications and company news.
- Drives strategic communications planning and counsels operational areas in identifying effective communication opportunities in the delivery of critical information across all campuses.
- Develops and implements integrated communications plans, employing integrated themes, strategies and tactics.
- Collaborates with Hospital leadership to enhance their visibility with staff and facilitates staff feedback to management.
- Works closely with Chief of Staff to manage crisis communications as needed.
- Champions Communications at NYP and works to ensure that Communications function is represented in planning for all Hospital-wide initiatives.
- Oversees Communications planning for key Hospital initiatives, Hospital regulatory visits – Joint Commission, DOH, etc. and construction activities impacting patients.
- Develops and edits Communications materials and presentations to ensure consistency with Hospital messaging.
- Manages Communications staff and works with outside vendors as required.
- In partnership with Marketing and Patient Centered Care develops patient information to support We Put Patients First.
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection and orientation of employees in assigned areas. Provides work direction, assigns and/or schedules work, conducts on-the-job training, answers job related questions. Monitors performance and adherence to attendance policies. Prepares performance evaluations and recommends appropriate personnel actions for staff, relative to promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action up to and including termination. Assists in the interpretation, development and implementation of Hospital personnel and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs all duties inherent to managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation, and termination of assigned staff according to Hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required (R), Preferred (P)
Education
B.A. or B.S. in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field (R)
Work Experience
- 10 years of experience in the field of Communications (R)
- Ability to think creatively, problem solve, plan, and operationalize plans across multiple sites (R)
- Ability to effectively interact with senior leadership and interface with all levels of the organization (R)
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills(R)
- Ability to manage staff in detail-oriented, team based, and deadline driven environment (R)
- Excellent computer skills, including PowerPoint (R)
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills (R)
