Metal Prep Technician – Sand Blasting

Nexeo HR is hiring a Metal Prep Technician to join a busy paint shop team in St. George, UT. This role focuses on prepping metal components—grinding, sanding, applying Bondo, and sandblasting—to ensure high-quality finishes before painting. You’ll work hands-on with various equipment, maintain safety and cleanliness, and contribute directly to the final product quality.

Responsibilities

•    Examine and prepare metal surfaces for painting using grinders, sanders, and sandblasting equipment.

•    Select and replace proper grit and abrasive materials as needed.

•    Remove weld marks, scratches, burs, mill slag, or paint to achieve smooth, flawless surfaces.

•    Apply Bondo or putty when necessary and maintain the cleanliness of prep and Bondo rooms.

•    Set up and safely operate sandblasting equipment, performing pre-use safety checks.

•    Use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) for sandblasting and other tasks.

•    Recover blasting media and perform regular maintenance on equipment.

•    Maintain quality standards and communicate with other departments as needed.

•    Drain air compressors at the end of the shift and perform other routine maintenance.

Qualifications

•    High school diploma or GED preferred.

•    At least 1–3 months of related experience or training (metal prep, grinding, sanding, sandblasting) preferred.

•    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly (occasionally up to 100 lbs).

•    Comfortable standing, walking, and using hands for extended periods.

•    Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

•    Ability to read simple instructions and perform basic math.

•    Willingness to work in a loud, dusty environment with exposure to fumes and vibration.

Pay

$17.00 Per Hour

Schedule 

Full-Time | 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday
