Purpose of Position:


Responsible for overseeing and guiding civil engineering design and construction for a wide range of industrial projects, including large-scale air separation plants, liquid CO2 plants, cylinder filling plants and associated infrastructure.


This role will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that civil works meet all technical, regulatory, and safety requirements while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.


This role will be key to working with external design firms to develop cost effective solutions related to civil designs.


Principal Responsibilities:


1. Lead and take ownership of civil engineering design for all major capital projects. Be involved from solution phase (proposal) through construction and final handover. Lead and manage design efforts for complex industrial plants, infrastructure, and related civil works.


2. Oversight of the multiple 3rd party engineering organizations that support capital projects, including review of designs, calculations, specifications, schedules and procedures.


3. Coordinate with construction personnel to resolve RFIs, NCRs and general support as needed


4. Provide technical expertise in the design of civil structures, including foundations, roads, drainage, site development, and other related works. Ensure designs comply with local regulations.. Interface with the proposals group to generate preliminary design and cost information for projects


5. Lead efforts to identify civil engineering risks on projects and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure all designs and construction activities follow safety protocols and adhere to environmental requirements.


6. Review civil engineering bids and schedules, ensuring that project civil scopes are accurate and fit for purpose. Proactively address any issues that could cause delays or cost overruns.


7. Serve as technical resource for other internal departments


8. Development of internal Civil Engineering standards and procedures


9. Representative for professional standard committees as needed


Qualifications


· Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Civil Engineering. A graduate degree is not required but considered a plus.


· Minimum of 7-15 years relevant experience in foundation, civil and structural design for industrial facilities


· Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.


· Familiarity with laser scan software such as LFM viewer or Quantapoint, Tekla or SDS-2 detailing software, and CAD drafting software platforms recommended


· Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.


· Deep Knowledge of Geotechnical surveys, soil classification and the ability to interpret results to drive for efficient foundation designs


· Ability to advise on relevant site codes and regulations on the national, state and local levels, as well as determine both basic site loads (seismic, wind, snow, ice, etc) and equipment specific loads from IBC and ASCE requirements.


· Ability to review concrete foundation design packages (including anchorage systems) for both static and rotating equipment common to chemical plants such as storage tanks, coldboxes and compressors to relevant codes and standards such as ACI 318.


· Ability to provide engineering oversight for civil engineering onsite work for the construction of new plants as needed


· Ability to review structural steel fabrication drawings and calculations per relevant codes and regulations such as AISC 360 and AWS D1.1


· Ability to review environmental impact assessments for construction activities


· Professional Engineering (P.E.) license


· Experience with industrial gases, cryogenic systems, air separation plants and chemical plants is a plus.


· Functional Skills:


1. Ability to think logically through complex technical issues and clearly document ideas, processes and conclusions


2. Ability to read, interpret and comprehend the following engineering documents:


a. P&ID (Process and Instrument Diagram)


b. GA (General Arrangement)


c. Site layout and civil plan drawings including foundation designs


d. Structural steel fabrication drawings


3. Ability to use 2D drafting programs (such as Autocad)


4. Ability to use 3D CAD programs (such as Solidworks, CATIA, or Fusion360) to generate or inspect designs


5. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc) is required


6. Ability to speak, read and write English is required


7. Ability to speak, read and write any of the following languages are a plus


a. German


b. Chinese (Mandarin)


c. Spanish


d. French



· Managerial Skills:


1. Ability to manage 3rd party engineering firms and lead overall project efforts for discipline


2. Ability to assist with training and developing of junior Engineers as well as Project Management team members

Salary : $155,000 - $160,000
