What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Preschool Student Support position at Next Generation VT?
The Student Support Aide/Behavior Help supports a specific student with social and emotional challenges in a childcare school setting. The preschool classroom has 18 students and two other teachers. The ideal candidate will be a patient, compassionate, and organized individual with a strong understanding of child development and behavior management techniques. Consistent routine and meeting the child's needs is the primary focus to help them maintain a successful day in their classroom environment.
Duties
Responsibilities: Work with the student individually and in small groups to develop a successful daily routine in the classroom. Observe student behavior and document progress. Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to develop and implement consistent behavior management strategies. Provide positive reinforcement for appropriate behavior. Redirect the student when engaging in inappropriate behavior ( Teachers will also support this). Use de-escalation techniques to help students calm down and regain control. Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress. Attend team meetings and participate in professional development opportunities as needed.
This can be a part-time or full-time position.
Requirements
Some College experience 1-2 years of experience working with children in a school or childcare setting or with students that have high sensory needs and need consistent routines Strong understanding of child development and behavior management techniques Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to handle stress and remain calm under pressure CPR and first aid certification preferred
