What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Operations Manager (LA) position at Next Level HVAC Energy Management Systems?
Highly experienced in management of HVAC DDC Control Business operations. This individual has a deep understanding of the many systems installed and maintained within the division. May act as lead to assist others on very complex projects tasks. Also provides mentoring and direct supervision on projects.
This position may report to Vice President, Branch Manager or Service Manager, depending upon the divisions(s) they will be overseeing.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective and efficient operations group, which may include construction or service activities.
- Provides direct supervision of work teams such as, but not limited to, project management, engineering, field technicians, panel production, and material management.
- Provides direct supervision technically and developmentally to assigned employees, including but not limited to HR functions, financial and technical training and mentoring, and day to day support to ensure efficient and productive workflow for the operations team.
- Provide input to sales and operations regarding the technical and business considerations for construction and service projects, including but not limited to estimating, timing, special resource needs, or other aspects peculiar to specific projects
- Forecasts and manages to ensure appropriate staffing levels for all aspect of operations team need based on employee skill sets
- Provides direct forecasting of accurate revenue, costs, margins and billings for the division(s) they are assigned.
- Ensures a level of efficiency, productivity and work-life-balance for the division(s) they are assigned.
- Active participation within the Next Level Leadership Council, with additional focus on overall business success.
- Leadership and participation within all monthly financial reporting processes.
- Assess monthly WIP re-forecast and keeps necessary documentation to manage ongoing project or employee issues as they appear on the WIP over time. Take appropriate action, as needed, to ensure accuracy and success.
- Participate in contract reviews, make recommendations and assist in any negotiations with customers.
- Ensure projects are booked appropriately with necessary forms completed for internal and external documentation
- Determine if customer expectation aligns with Next Levels’ and be achieved based upon estimate or contractual scope.
- Oversee material needs and timing to maximize cash flow and material efficiency of the business portfolio, but also insight into individual projects, in conjunction with project managers.
- Ensure that assigned projects are invoiced correctly and is involved in collections activities to minimize collections aging
- Be able to recommend technical solutions to both the operations team and the sales team
- Identifies change order opportunities and coordinates with sales to document, pursue, and book them
- Provide support to operations team and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the controls or special systems operations
- Communicate with internal employees to ensure that labor hours are accurate and timely, taking into consideration that the estimated productivity is achieved in all areas
- Provide leadership and input to others as request or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems
- Communicate with external organizations such as consulting engineers, building owners, and other contractors to ensure accurate and timely engineering
- Review all engineered submittals ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and customer expectations as well as location standards
- Works with direct reports to assist them in their development of personal goals, review these goals with direct reports throughout the year and provide annual review as well as administration of salaries for these direct reports
- Other duties will be assigned as needed
Skills & Qualifications:
- 5 years of proven industry experience, including leading teams.
- Two-year technical degree in HVAC or Electronics related studies preferred.
- An undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical related studies is preferred.
- Solid understanding of project financials, analysis, including critical thinking.
- Other technical experience such as on the job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement.
- Experience and expertise including but not limited to:
- An understanding of basic computer systems including MS Office Suite of products.
- The ability to configure and debug basic computer problems.
- Some experience with programming.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuitry including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand the issues and perceptions others have.
- Creatively and successfully work through issues to achieve a successful outcome for customer and employee satisfaction.
- Thorough understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.
- Understanding of the DDC that control buildings.
- Understand the other systems involved in the mechanical and electrical portions of building controls.
- Experience to provide extensive integration support for a multitude of building systems.
- A strong business and financial awareness and the ability to apply these to a portfolio of projects to maximize cash flow, profits, and customer and employee satisfaction.
Essential Functions:
- Be able to sit for an extended period of time.
- Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
- Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
- Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.
- Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Next Level’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle.
- Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.

Compensation:
- $150,000 - $190,000 per year
