Position Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt    
Reports To: Founder, CTO
Compensation: $32 to $48/hour, DOE
Location: On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA 

Job Summary:
The Plasma Spray Technician role is specialized within manufacturing and engineering realms, primarily focused on the application of plasma spray coatings to various materials. The process involves using plasma arc technology to melt and propel materials onto surfaces, enhancing their durability, corrosion resistance, and thermal properties.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Operation of Equipment: Operate plasma spray equipment to apply coatings to components according to specifications and quality standards. 
  • Material Handling: Handle and prepare spray materials such as powders, rods, wires, and gases for the spraying process. May include: cleaning, masking, grit blasting, and de-masking.
  • Part Inspection: Inspect surfaces visually for defects. Inspect parts dimensionally using micrometers and calipers.
  • Process Monitoring: Monitor and adjust spraying parameters (e.g., temperature, velocity, feed rate) to ensure consistent and high-quality coatings. Participate in continuous improvement of cell processes.
  • Quality Control: Inspect coated surfaces for adherence, thickness, porosity, and other quality parameters. Perform post-spray inspections and tests.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of plasma spray equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety, in accordance with service manuals. May include rebuilding gun, changing powder, or replacing water.) 
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including handling of hazardous materials and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Report immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of spraying activities, including process parameters, materials used, and quality inspection results.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with other teams to meet project deadlines and quality requirements. Participate in cross-training with other Plasma Spray Technicians. Move between production assignments. 
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES - REQUIRED
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of experience applying thermal spray coatings (plasma, wire.)
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments.
    • Ability to follow written technical plans and instructions for plasma spray, HVOF, and wire arc spray of catalyst components.
    • Ability to understand and carry out requirements from the Service Manuals.
    • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints. (Metric)
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform quality inspections.
    • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
    • Reading and writing in English.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES - Preferred
  • Proficiency operating robotic arms possibly a FANUC or ABB robots.
