What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alcohol and Drug Counselor position at Next Level Supportive Services?
Counseling services shall:
1) Be designed to help a participant resolve personal issues or interpersonal problems resulting from a brain injury,
2) Assist a family member in implementing an approved person-centered service plan,
3) In a severe case, shall be provided as an adjunct to behavioral programming,
4) Include substance abuse or chemical dependency treatment, if needed,
5) Include building and maintaining healthy relationships,
6) Develop social skills or the skills to cope with and adjust to the brain injury, and
7) Increase knowledge and awareness of the effects of an ABI.
Counseling services may include a group therapy service if the service is:
1) Provided to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 participants for the acute ABI participant, or
2) Provided to a maximum of 12 participants for the ABI LTC participant, and
3) Included in the participant’s approved person-centered service plan for:
a. Substance abuse or chemical dependency treatment, if needed,
b. Building and maintaining healthy relationships,
c. Developing social skills,
d. Developing skills to cope with and adjust to a brain injury, including the use of cognitive remediation strategies consisting of the development of compensatory memory and problem-solving strategies, and the management of impulsivity, and
e. Increasing knowledge and awareness of the effects of the acquired brain injury upon the participant’s functioning and social interactions.
Counseling services shall be provided by:
1) A psychiatrist,
2) A psychologist,
3) A psychologist with autonomous functioning,
4) A licensed psychological associate,
5) A licensed clinical social worker,
6) A clinical nurse specialist with a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing,
7) An advanced practice registered nurse,
8) A certified alcohol and drug counselor,
9) A licensed marriage and family therapist,
10) A licensed professional clinical counselor,
11) A licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor associate effective and contingent upon approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or
12) A licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor effective and contingent upon approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
