About the Role
A skilled Diesel Mechanic is needed to perform maintenance and repairs on Public Works Department vehicles and equipment . This role involves diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines , managing preventive maintenance , and assisting with vehicle operations during emergency situations. The position requires working under general supervision while making independent decisions regarding repairs and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engine repairs, overhauls, brake and suspension work, clutch replacements, and electrical system repairs .
- Maintain detailed repair records and manage a preventive maintenance program .
- Repair power equipment such as compressors, jackhammers, and mowers.
- Order and manage parts inventory and assist in vehicle specifications development .
- Operate vehicles for snow removal, plowing, sanding, and emergency highway operations .
- Follow safety protocols and update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System .
