What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outpatient Behavioral Health Technician position at Next Life Recovery Center Ohio?

Responsible for providing direct support to clients in an outpatient mental health and addiction treatment setting. This role includes monitoring client activities, supporting clients in daily living skills, responding to crises, and ensuring a safe and structured environment. The BHT serves as a liaison between clients and the clinical team, supporting clients through observation, communication, and transportation assistance as needed. A strong commitment to safety, empathy, and professional conduct is essential for this position.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observe patient activity and maintain a consistent, visible presence throughout the facility.
- Encourage and support client participation in treatment programs and scheduled group activities.
- Recognize and respond effectively to crisis situations, using appropriate interventions.
- Act as a liaison between clients and the treatment team, reporting relevant observations.
- Accurately document client behaviors and interactions to inform clinical care plans.
- Perform urine and nasal sample collections in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure that all samples are collected, labeled, and documented accurately.
- Maintain client confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and other applicable laws.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other assigned duties.
EDUCATION:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field preferred but not required.
- Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician or Mental Health Specialist preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR Certification (or ability to obtain prior to hire).
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training (or ability to obtain).
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to observe, assess, and respond to dynamic behavioral health needs.
- High integrity and ability to work with vulnerable populations in a supportive manner.
