Overview
Next Stage Arts, a nationally-recognized rural arts presenter, seeks a visionary and dynamic Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization into its next phase. The incoming ED will build on a strong foundation of programmatic excellence, deep community connection, and successful financial management.
The ED embodies the strategic and programmatic vision essential to NSA’s role as a community-based arts presenter. They foster and manage key relationships with donors, community partners, and artists. In collaboration with a small, dynamic staff, the ED creates and executes NSA program initiatives on the stage and behind the scenes.
The ED provides administrative oversight for all aspects of operations, serving as the chief executive officer and reporting directly to the Board of Directors. This leadership transition aligns with the Board’s adoption of a new five- year strategic plan. The incoming ED will play an integral role in implementing the plan and shaping NSA’s future.
This is a full-time position in Putney, VT with a salary range of $70,000 - $85,000 plus a health insurance stipend. Ideal start date on or about July 1, 2025. Applications will be accepted through April 7th, 2025.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of five years senior leadership experience within the arts non-profit sector
- Demonstrated experience curating diverse, high-quality arts programming
- Demonstrated experience in fiscal planning/budgeting/oversight at an organizational level
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to implementing growth strategies
- Demonstrated success leading a small, versatile staff
- Proven success in fundraising including grant writing, donor engagement, and institutional development
- Strong marketing, promotional, and public relations skills
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
About Next Stage Arts
Founded in 2010 by community members dedicated to driving cultural engagement and economic vitality, Next Stage Arts quickly became a hub of Putney, Vermont’s vibrant arts community. The organization completed extensive renovations on its 1841 historic building to create a fully accessible, state-of-the-art 200 seat theater with flexible spaces including a commercial kitchen and fine art gallery.
NSA has evolved into a cornerstone of the southern Vermont arts and culture ecosystem presenting over 100 events annually on a year-round basis including world-class music, theater, spoken word, film, and educational collaborations. Of particular note is the Bandwagon Series, a roving outdoor summer series on a portable stage. NSA has received national recognition, including major grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and ArtPlace America. The organization marks its 15th anniversary in 2025.
