What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at Next Step Academy?
Three Lakes Educational Cooperative is taking applications for a Full-Time Special Education Teacher for Next Step Academy an 18-21 year old program for the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants must have, or be eligible for, a Kansas teaching license in special education. We would be willing to consider applicants who are eligible for a provisional license in special education or applicants who are willing to work towards licensure through the waiver process.
- Serve as case manager in the development and implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Communicates with other special education teachers, paraprofessionals, general education teachers, and principals regarding the educational needs and program(s) of students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with the school team in implementing effective specialized teaching strategies for students with disabilities.
- Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals, services, and accommodations/modifications provided, parent contacts, notices, and other documentation as required by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) regulations or the Director of Special Education.
- Participates in student eligibility evaluations and re-evaluations.
- Complies with district/cooperative safety practices.
- Complies with all district/cooperative rules, regulations, and polices.
- Prepare students for adult living utilizing the adult domains of functional living.
- Collect and analyze data to ensure progress is being made.
- Complete transition assessments and write transition plans.
- Supervise students in the building and on job-sites.
- Prepare 18-21 year olds to navigate the community.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone
- Ability to travel within the cooperative.
- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to height.
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit on floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
- Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job
Salary is based upon placement on the TLEC salary schedule.
