You'll define Nextdoor's strategic approach to building and hosting highly scalable, cloud native data stores, and have an opportunity to work on systems at a scale of millions of QPS. The primary focus of the team is an iterative investment in a distributed, globally replicated graph store with highly available tiered caching. This datastore will provide predictable performance and aims to enable product engineers to move quickly without thinking about RDBMS database performance / migrations and will enable a fundamental architectural shift at Nextdoor towards a globally available single distributed application. We build performance and scalability into the platform itself so that the application is safe and fast by default. Your responsibilities will includeProviding technical guidance and technical contribution to shape one of Nextdoor’s most ambitious technical projectsScaling an engineering team with a culture of high technical performance and pragmatic decision making.Balancing individual technical contributions with leverage through the engineering team you supportParticipation in in-person Nextdoor events, trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and other team building exercisesBuild in-person relationships with team members and contribute to the KIND culture that Nextdoor values What You’ll Bring To The Team5 Years of experience in a high performance distributed systems engineering environment, preferably working closely scaling databases and caches to support fast social product growth, and / or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain1 years of people management, leading technical teams preferably on a consumer application with frequent release cycles. and / or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domainStrong technical background with the ability to set longer term architectural priorities while maintaining the ability to break those priorities into deliverable milestonesAbility to drive a strong sense of ownership across the team, build and maintain strong execution cadences, and motivate the team celebrating wins and learning from experimentsExperience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of workCollaborative, thoughtful, and strategic leadership; comfortable with open communication and giving / receiving constructive feedback respectfullyEmpathy and customer obsession for collaborating with other infra and product teams across the companyRewardsCompensation, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to create one overall rewards package.The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $220,000 to $285,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. Compensation may also vary by geography.We also expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With equal quarterly vesting, your first vest date would be within the first 3 months of your start date.Overall, total compensation will vary depending on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.When it comes to benefits, we have you covered!
