Job Description
Position Title : Network Services Technician
Locations : Danville or Gretna, VA offices
I. Purpose of Position
This is a full-time Bargaining Unit position responsible for the installation and maintenance of plant facilities and customer-owned equipment, including but not limited to service-related tasks.
II. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform installations and repairs, including telephone, video, broadband, and special services in both fiber and copper plant environments.
Install fiber and copper enclosures.
Install inside wiring according to company specifications.
Locate and resolve network issues, ensuring efficient and logical troubleshooting.
Conduct service restoration during outages or interruptions.
Utilize test equipment such as OTDR, TDR, and other relevant tools to record proper readings.
Perform fiber splices using various splicing machines.
Operate company vehicles (valid driver’s license required; personal driving insurability may affect employment).
III. Special Conditions
Collaborate with other departments for the company’s maximum benefit or as directed by the Director of Network Services.
Be available for overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and work during inclement weather as needed.
Work a Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday rotation schedule, including an on-call rotation.
Maintain a positive attitude, work well with colleagues, and provide exceptional customer service to RiverStreet customers.
IV. Job Knowledge, Experience, and Training
Education : Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience required.
Preferred Skills :
Experience with broadband technologies, including DSL, FTTx, and Wi-Fi.
Proficiency in fiber and copper color codes and identification.
General Skills :
Good verbal communication.
Detail-oriented team player.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a technical environment.
Safe work habits.
Must attend training schools, which may involve travel and overnight stays.
V. Physical Requirements
Physically capable of related work, including ladder and pole climbing.
Able to lift weights exceeding 100 pounds.
Requires stooping, crawling, and kneeling.
Must not be color-blind.
VI. Other Requirements
Follow company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Maintain vehicles and supplies in a neat and logical manner.
Occasionally work with contractors.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Network Services.

Skills Required :
Solid understanding of fiber optic handling and basic low-voltage wiring in residential or small business environments.
Proficient in 802.11xx wireless networks.
Valid driver’s license, truck, and tools required.
