Mainframe Systems Engineer

About the Role :

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mainframe Systems Engineer. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining and enhancing our core mainframe environment. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from project design and leadership to operational support and technical expertise. This position requires a strong understanding of mainframe hardware and software, excellent problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities :

  • Project Leadership :  Lead and participate in complex mainframe projects, including design, implementation, and documentation. This includes :

Application Resiliency Certification (ARC) projects.

  • Hitachi Vantara replication implementations, with expertise in Data Assurance (Galahad).
  • Brocade Director refresh initiatives.
  • Storage refreshes encompassing Brocade directors / switches, Hitachi DASD, and IBM Virtual Tape TS7700s.
  • Storage Architecture :  Provide expertise in storage architecture and management :

    • Design and implement encryption solutions.

  • Analyze and optimize I / O performance across DASD, switches, and tape.
  • Deep understanding of FICON / Fibre channel protocols and configuration.
  • HCD / IOCP knowledge and implementation.
  • Capacity planning for storage and network infrastructure.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis for storage solutions, focusing on cost reduction and consolidation.
  • Operational Support :  Ensure the stability and availability of the mainframe environment :

    • Plan and support data center moves.

  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises.
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting.
  • Technical Skills :  Maintain and enhance critical mainframe systems :

    • Assembler language proficiency (understanding and modification capabilities).

  • Knowledge of ACC / SRS, CA1, DFHSM, DFSMS, IBM Utilities / Exits, and ICF Catalogs.
  • DB2 and IMS administration from a storage perspective.
  • REXX scripting skills.

    • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in mainframe systems administration and engineering.
  • Proven experience in project design and leadership within a mainframe environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Hitachi Vantara replication technologies, including Data Assurance (Galahad).
  • Strong understanding of storage technologies, including encryption, performance optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Hands-on experience with Brocade directors / switches and storage refreshes.
  • Familiarity with mainframe software components like ACC / SRS, CA1, DFHSM, DFSMS, and IBM Utilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
