Position: Accountant
Location: Washington, DC 20024 (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 months
Hybrid Position - 2 days on-site (schedule requirements subject to change)
Duties and Responsibilities
The Accountant is responsible for evaluating and improving financial systems, preparing and interpreting financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The role involves advising management, researching accounting issues, and assisting with audits and year-end procedures.
· Evaluate and enhance accounting systems, recommend modifications, and assist with testing system changes.
· Prepare and analyze financial reports, provide consulting on financial matters, and advise management on account statuses and improvements.
· Research accounting issues, update on new standards, and contribute to the development of accounting policies and procedures.
· Prepare and reconcile financial transactions, perform account reconciliations, and maintain documentation for audits.
· Ensure transactions comply with policies and regulations, reconcile general ledger accounts, and prepare required accounting reports.
· Support year-end closeout by ensuring accurate accruals and adjustments.
· Assist with complex financial studies to support management decision-making.
· Prepare work papers and financial reports for audits and provide necessary documentation.
· Identify accounting issues, recommend improvements to internal controls, and ensure fund security and reliability.
· Consult on complex issues, attend meetings with relevant agencies, and discuss financial matters related to federal reimbursements and audits.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Qualifications:
· 3 years of demonstrated accounting experience
· In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including federal, state, and local regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Federal Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards.
· Proficiency in financial reporting requirements, especially concerning federal grants.
· Experience with detailed accounting and financial recording techniques to ensure accurate financial descriptions of expenditures.
· Expertise in financial management systems and software, including Microsoft Excel and Access, with the ability to design, improve, and generate reports.
· Proven ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports and statements.
· Experience in designing, modifying, and implementing accounting methods and procedures to enhance reliability and efficiency.
· Skill in identifying and correcting discrepancies in accounting records.
· Demonstrated experience in maintain audit trail documentation.
