What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Fiber Horizontal Directional Driller/Bore Rig Operator position at Nextlink Internet?

**This is a local position that has travel. Your current permanent residence must be no further than 45 minutes from our Springtown, TX office**
Job Summary:
The horizontal directional drill operator is responsible for drilling safety, drill machine operation, transportation of the drill machine, and all locate equipment used for drilling.
Essential Functions:

- Responsible for the safe operation of the drilling machine
- Ensuring that all employees stay clear of the rotating parts as well as any pinch points or blind spots while moving the drill (a spotter must be used when moving the drill).
- Responsible for flagging and covering any open pits or potholes during the drilling operation
- Open holes must be buried or covered and secure before the end of each shift.
- Responsible for the safe loading & unloading of the machine to include chain binding for drill transportation.
- Responsible for the drill locating equipment (Drill stem transmitter & handheld receiver unit)
- Maintain daily reporting required for the site.
- Maintain the company vehicle in working order and report any issues.
- Implement and follow through with job instructions provided by leadership.
- Ensure safety and quality control requirements at your sites and with your crew.
- Check to ensure all paperwork is uploaded or turned in to the proper people or program.
- Coordinate with landowners for site related activities and maintain a good working relationship.
- Ensure that drill equipment is in operational condition at all time.
- Inspect completed work daily to ensure all work is done professionally to the Nextlink standard.
- Analyzing situations accurately and adopt an appropriate course of action.
- Communicating orally and in writing.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Work with basic hand tools
- Ability to lift/pull heavy objects
- Ability to read and understand plat drawings and bore profiles
- Comfortable with working in the outdoor elements through all seasons
- Must be team-oriented and safety conscious
- Must be able to pass on site drilling training/ testing
- Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check
- Must be able to obtain a DOT Medical Card
- Must have a valid Class A driver’s license with a safe/acceptable driving record in compliance with company policy
- Must be able to adapt in a high stress and fast paced environment
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Recent construction experience working in outdoor elements through all seasons
Job Classification:

Work Environment/Hazards:
- Working in outdoor elements such as cold, hot, precipitation and wind
- In proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehicles
- Use of heavy machinery
- High noise level
- Use of PPE
Physical Demands:
- Stationary position for 8-10 hours a day
- Frequently moving, transporting, positioning objects of 50 pounds or more
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps.
- Frequently required to use hand and power tools
Working Hours/Days
- Monday through Friday (possible weekends on occasion)
- Full Time
- Overtime as needed
Travel Requirements:
- 50% travel required
- Overnight as needed
