Job Summary:
The OSP Fiber Splicer is responsible for terminating, splicing, testing, repair, outage reporting and documentation of network fiber optic cables.
Essential Functions:
Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
· Position will consist of mainly daytime hours and some night work
· Must be willing to be on call and deploy at any time if we need to respond to a fiber outage or issue
· Must know the fiber optic color code
· Must be willing to go out to customer locations, schools, towers etc. and preform site walks and be able to put that into a SOW (scope of work)
· Terminate, fusion splice, and install fiber optic connectors and enclosures for both loose tube and ribbon fiber
· Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber in multiple capacities
· Must be willing to be in a bucket truck and remove aerial splice cases where needed
· Must be willing to pull in fiber AP’s if construction is not available to do so
· Must be able to climb ladders and be comfortable in bucket truck working on aerial plant
· Proficient using fiber tools and test equipment, OTDR, fusion splicer, optical light source, and power meter
· Must be willing to work together with the construction crew when it benefits the schedule and makes since to deploy with the construction crew and splice in our fiber, all in one trip
· Must be willing to hand dig with the construction crew if needed
· Must be a team player and willing to be trained and learn the essential job functions of a fiber splicer
· Must be willing to work OT as needed for the company
· Must be willing to work long days where needed
· Must be willing to field projects for new fiber – to include site walks, aerial pole walk to gather info, schools, and any other project location we may be fibering
Skills:
· Good communication and organizational skills
· Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
· Understand construction prints and splice documents
· Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions as well as in a splice trailer
· Dedicated to safety and keeping a safe work environment
· Ability to work within a fast-paced, high-change environment while managing multiple interruptions and adjustments to priorities throughout the day.
· Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.
· Must have time management skills and understand the importance of managing time
· Must have a proven track record of being on time
· Must maintain a clean and presentable company vehicle
· Needs to be able to be able to multi-task and handle multiple project standings at one time
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
· Experience with fiber tools
Job Classification:
· Field Infrastructure – Fiber Splicer

Work Environment/Hazards:
· Outdoor elements and working with aerial plant
· In proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehicles
· Working close to power transformers
· Moderate noise level
· Use of PPE
Physical Demands:
- Sitting stationary for long periods of time splicing
· Climbing ladders, crouching, balance, kneel, stoop
· Working in all weather conditions
Working Hours/Days:
· Min 40 hours
· Overtime as needed
Travel Requirements:
· 70-100% travel required
