Job Brief:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities. As a key role in the Accounting Team, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the monthly close and presentation of financials. They will be involved in supporting presentations to the board finance and audit committee and will work closely with the senior leadership team on analytical reports with the BU Controllers. The Financial Controller will have day-to-day as well as Monthe-end and Year-end responsibilities related to close and financial reporting. They will supervise a team with functional responsibility over General Ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other various areas as needed. The Financial Controller will ensure that Nexus Cooperative has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and be the point person for financial audits. The Financial Controller will work closely with Business Unit (BU) Controllers and their staff regarding finance and accounting procedures. In addition, this role will partner with the CFO, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and the human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring closing processes.
- Reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Guiding financial decisions by developing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
- Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
- Ensuring compliance with financial and accounting regulations.
- Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
- Evaluating and enhancing financial controls and procedures.
- Analyzing and interpreting balance sheets, income statements, cash flow, and liabilities.
- Performing financial risk assessments, as well as facilitating intervention strategies related to those assessments.
- Maximizing returns on cash balances and improving closing and reporting cycles.
- Coordinating and recording investments and maintaining fixed asset records.
- Documenting processes and ensuring compliance with financial management and accounting regulations.
- Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends as needed by management.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
- Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
- Handling preparation for tax returns.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to cohesively manage business operations and deliver value.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to ensure that our talent development programs remain relevant and effective.
- Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency gains.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Expectations:
- Monitor closing checklists.
- Follow up with anyone that is behind and get them back on track.
- All Reconciliations reviewed and completed timely.
- Working financials for review to all BU leaders and SLT team by EOD BD 5.
- Month closed by BD 10 (Exception YE close).
- The Borrowing Base report submitted no later than BD 15.
- Cash Flow Reporting.
