What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher - Summer or Year-Round position at Nexus Family Healing?
Nexus-Onarga is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit network of mental health agencies providing innovative, customized help for children and families struggling with emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues often stemming from significant levels of childhood trauma.
We provide boys, ages 10-20 a structured homelike environment with dorm style living, indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, and an on-site therapeutic day school that is located just a few miles off of I-57 approximately 90 miles south of Chicago and just 30 miles south of Kankakee, 45 miles north of Champaign-Urbana and 30 miles west of the Indiana/Illinois state line!
Work Schedule & Salary:
- Schedule: As needed basis throughout the school year and/or Summer Substitute Teaching opportunities available during Summer Semester June-August!
- Hours: M-F 7a-3:30pm (prescheduled & on call hours available)
- Salary: $17-$19 per hour based on credentials & prior teaching experience
Responsibilities:
The Substitute Teacher will provide educational instruction through a variety of accepted teaching techniques while employing behavior management strategies that will ensure the effective and efficient implementation of assigned individual students’ IEPs on an as needed basis to complement the needs of the full time teaching staff.
- Complement the scheduling needs of the full-time teaching staff
- Provide instruction to assigned students in classes of expertise as assigned.
- Provide crisis intervention within the classroom setting and apply TCI or approved de-escalation techniques appropriate to the situation at hand; ask for assistance when warranted through appropriate procedures and keep other academic and clinical treatment staff appraised of inappropriate behaviors.
- Ensure confidentiality regarding students is in compliance with all licensing agencies, company policy, COA and HIPAA guidelines.
- Attend training sessions as required; understand and support the Nexus treatment philosophy and modalities
Qualifications:
Required:
- ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) Substitute Teaching License (SUB or STS)
Nice to Have:
- Specialization in the areas of EBD, LD, SED and/or TMH.
- Previous teaching experience.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- Bending, twisting and reaching conducive to an office environment
- Must be able to assist in proper restraining of residents
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance
