Job-specific Responsibilities
- Overall responsible for the mental health technicians. Ensure policies and procedures are followed and necessary documentation is completed each shift.
- Provides direct support and supervision for the mental health technicians and lead mental health technicians.
- Manages shift schedule for technicians to reduce overtime each shift while ensuring state-mandated ratio is followed.
- Ensure mental health technicians are scheduled and attend mandated training.
- Oversee the on-the-job training for all mental health technicians.
- Provide support to mental health technicians in therapeutic interventions that are appropriate.
- Reports any concerns regarding training or compliance with Mental Health Technicians.
- Provides care to patients that promote safety, comfort and ensures a therapeutic environment.
- Provides direct supervision of patients/residents when necessary.
- Prevents and manages crisis situations, including verbal conflict, emotional dysregulation, physical conflict, and other instances as required.
- Role model appropriate behaviors, attitudes, social skills, and self-care.
- Reinforce therapeutic treatment goals through Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
- Is trained and can facilitate SAMA de-escalation skills and able to complete verbal de-escalation and containment as needed to ensure the safety of residents in care.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living; attends to patient behavioral problems and provides assistance in crisis intervention, as needed.
- Works with other multi-disciplinary team members in leading milieu activities such as current events groups, community meetings, goals groups, fitness groups, activities of daily living groups, and/or recreational activities, as appropriate to the specified patient population.
- Chart patient observations, following prescribed procedures and standards.
- Participates in the development and implementation of patient treatment programs.
- Maintains age-appropriate rules and enforces the behavioral management system, including proper conduct of residents during therapy groups, recreation, and education.
- Transport patients to and from appointments, clinics, laboratories, and/or treatments as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in training, in-service education, and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Maintains established institutional policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Observes methods/techniques of clinical staff and participate in the treatment of residents in interactions, limit setting, and implementation of treatment plans.
- Is responsible for co-facilitation and involvement in clinical groups and facilitating non-clinical groups.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Assists with medication preparation and management as needed.
- Completes all documentation as required or ensures the completion of all necessary documentation promptly and appropriately.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
- Adheres to facility policies and procedures.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA/BA/BS Psychology, Education, or related social service field (preferred)
- Experience in residential care or mental health treatment (preferred)
- SAMA or other Nexus Approved non-aggressive behavior intervention certification
- Must obtain current tuberculosis test within the first fourteen (14) days of employment and annually thereafter.
- Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility, or obtain it within thirty (30) days of hire.
