About the Job
The Principal serves as the educational leader and chief executive of school. This role is responsible for implementing the vision and mission of the school, ensuring academic excellence, fiscal oversight, staff development, and maintaining full compliance with local, state, and federal charter school laws, and San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD) oversight requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a rigorous, standards-based bilingual curriculum aligned with the school’s mission and the California State Standards.
Ensure the integration of culturally responsive pedagogy and data-driven instruction.
Oversee the implementation of MTSS, RTI, and special education services (IDEA compliance).
Lead annual goal-setting and academic achievement targets as required by the charter.
Compliance & Accountability
Ensure compliance with the school's charter petition, the California Education Code, SJUSD oversight requirements, and applicable federal laws.
Coordinate all compliance reporting (e.g., CALPADS, LCAP, SARC, Title I/III).
Serve as liaison with the SJUSD charter school office and ensure timely submission of financial, academic, and operational reports.
Monitor adherence to the school’s charter and lead charter renewal and material revision processes.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate certified and classified staff following CA Ed Code and charter standards.
Facilitate professional development aligned with the school’s goals and state initiatives (e.g., ELD strategies, UDL).
Maintain a collaborative staff culture with high expectations and clear accountability.
Operations & Budget Management
Collaborate with the Charter School Business Office on budget planning, fiscal compliance, audits, and reporting.
Ensure facility safety and maintenance meets all local and state health and safety codes.
Supervise student enrollment, attendance reporting, and CALPADS submissions.
Family & Community Engagement
Build a strong school culture that values family voice, equity, and shared leadership.
Lead family engagement strategies and ensure all communication is culturally and linguistically appropriate.
Collaborate with community partners to enhance student services and enrichment.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field (required)
Valid California Administrative Services Credential (required)
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in a charter, traditional public, or bilingual school
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Charter law and compliance
State and federal programs (Title I, III, Special Education)
Academic performance frameworks and accountability systems (CA Dashboard, LCAP)
