What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Sign Language Interpreter position at Nexus Therapy?
Nexus Therapy is now hiring for full-time American sign-language interpreters for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year,. This position pays $50 per hour and you can bill for up to 6.5 hours for each full day worked (32.5 hours per full week worked). You would be working with a great, smaller and supportive district about 20 minutes from lovely Centralia, Washington. Must be licensed as an ASL interpreter with an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher and be able to work in the schools. You would be working with 1-2 students.

Duties:
- Provide sign language interpretation services to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems
- Translate sign language into spoken language for hearing individuals
- Ensure accurate and effective communication by conveying the intended message and tone of the speaker
- Adapt interpretation style and techniques based on the needs of the individuals involved
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of conduct
Requirements:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems
- Strong communication skills, both in sign language and spoken language
- Bilingual and multilingual abilities are highly desirable
- Knowledge of linguistics and the ability to understand different sign language dialects
- Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter is preferred
- Experience working as a sign language interpreter in various settings is a plus
