What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Sign Language Interpreter position at Nexus Therapy?
Nexus Therapy is now hiring for a full-time American sign-language interpreter for the remainder of this school year, with the potential to renew for the 2025-2026 school year as well! This W2 employee position pays $50 per hour, with a schedule of 8:00AM-3:00PM and 6.5 work hours per full shift worked, with the half hour unpaid lunch). You would be working with middle school students in a great, smaller, yet supportive district near lovely Colville, Washington. Must be currently licensed as an ASL interpreter.

Duties:
- Provide sign language interpretation services to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems
- Translate sign language into spoken language for hearing individuals
- Ensure accurate and effective communication by conveying the intended message and tone of the speaker
- Adapt interpretation style and techniques based on the needs of the individuals involved
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of conduct
Requirements:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems
- Strong communication skills, both in sign language and spoken language
- Bilingual and multilingual abilities are highly desirable
- Knowledge of linguistics and the ability to understand different sign language dialects
- Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter is preferred, but not always required
- Experience working as a sign language interpreter in various settings is a plus
