Position Summary:
The seasonal Camp Counselor is an energetic and enthusiastic individual responsible for leading campers (ages 4–14) through engaging, nature-based activities during Ney Nature Center’s summer camp programs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about environmental education, enjoy working with children, and have experience supervising youth in outdoor settings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a group of about 12 campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety, engagement, and well-being.
- Plan and deliver nature-themed games, crafts, and educational activities that align with the camp’s curriculum in partnership with NNC Staff.
- Actively participate in and model enthusiasm for all camp activities, including hikes, pond exploration, and team-building exercises.
- Facilitate positive group dynamics and encourage respectful behavior among campers.
- Maintain clear and open communication with parents, guardians, and NNC staff.
- Assist in the preparation, setup, and cleanup of activities and program materials.
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines, and day camp protocols, including first aid and emergency procedures.
- Support the lead Naturalists and other NNC staff in additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Graduate or Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED) and at least one year of experience or related training OR any combination of education and experience equal to the above.
- Bachelors degree or workings towards a degree, in a related area preferred
- Experience working with children in a camp, classroom, or similar environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Interest or background in environmental science, education, or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate natural terrain.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification once the position has begun).
- Ability to pass a background check.
Schedule and Compensation:
- This position is seasonal. The position would begin around May 21st and run through August 8th with up to 40 hours per week. Camps run from June through July.
