NFI Massachusetts Inc., a non-profit human services agency is currently seeking a full time Cook for its DYS program located in Peabody, MA. We are looking for a passionate Cook who can follow recipes and takes pride in the meals that they prepare.
This program is a residential DYS program for adolescent males (ages 13-20) referred by the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. It is a well-staffed program with administrators, licensed clinicians, teachers, direct care staff and other support staff. The program structure includes classes 5.5 hours per day, individual and group counseling, life skills and pre-vocational skills training. Rehabilitation followed by supported community reintegration is the ultimate goal of the program.
The Cook is responsible for the preparation of approved meals and snacks. Responsible for sanitation and hygiene of the facilities, equipment and materials.
Status: Full time
Schedule: Monday - Friday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Pay rate: $23/hour

Job Responsibilities:
- Preparation, cooking and serving of up to three meals and one snack each day.
- Responsible for purchasing of food and maintaining up to date inventory control.
- Responsible for working within the designated budget on a monthly basis.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the facility, equipment, utensils and materials in accordance with health department regulations and as required by the federal government.
- Maintenance of the kitchen/dining log.
- Meet and follow all health department regulations related to personal hygiene and appearance.
- Successfully participate in all required agency training.
- Perform all duties in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required with a minimum of one to three years full-time commercial cooking experience in a restaurant, hospital or comparable setting serving the dietary needs of adolescents.
- ServSafe certified preferred or be able to pass test within three months.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of menu and meal preparation. Knowledge of food preferences among different cultural and ethnic groups and ability to plan and prepare meals in response to those preferences.
- Work well with fellow staff member and clients.
- Must be computer literate.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, per recipe instructions
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Salary : $2,500
