SUMMARY:
The SFS department is responsible for the operation of specialized Lifting equipment, including the replacement of major wind turbine components. The main focus will be building (and refining) a team to manage, and support demands for large corrective exchanges for the wind gear drive business. Our Large Corrective Exchange Technicians assist and perform all operations of our specialized Lifting equipment, including the replacement of major wind turbine components such as blades, gearboxes, generators, drive trains and hubs.
EMPLOYEE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports to the SFS Manager
- Performs heavy rigging operations to facilitate replacement of wind turbine components
- Mobilizes lifting equipment as required
- Complies with all company and government safety regulations and guidelines
- Participates in on-the-job training with on-site personnel
- Completes all company required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
- Travels as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with heavy rigging
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and proof of insurance coverage
- Must be able to pass core safety, climbing and other required training courses
- Valid current state license without restrictions
- Willing to obtain and maintain a valid CDL
- Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
- Full English language proficiency
- GE 1.5-1.7 plus ESS certificate is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge in a Mechanical and Electrical Trade is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED
- An associate's degree in Wind Turbine Technology is a plus but not required.
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- The employee must be of sound body and mind.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; particulate matter and outside weather conditions. The employee can be exposed to risks of electrical and mechanical hazards. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening.
- Must be capable of rescuing team mate anywhere in tower in the event of emergency with proper training.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold).
- Has the ability to climb and work a top freestanding wind turbine towers that exceed 300 feet in height and potentially do this multiple times per day.
