I. BASIC FUNCTIONS The Product Engineer of Product Management (PM) Heavy Duty (HD) is an engineer that will perform NGK future engineering programs, tests, and simulations for automobile industries including but not limited to, regulator relations, customer relations, product / testing / simulation (technology) engineering / development and future strategic technology initiatives. Primarily responsible for engineering support to major US HD OEM for current and future production programs. PM is focused on product development / implementation and must closely communicate with Product Development which is responsible for verification / validation of product by testing / simulation. Performs engineering activities within the PM-HD organization and coordinates and implements engineering objectives and initiatives. Develops improvement of technologies that involve the engineering department. Manages all meetings. Support current and advanced engineering aspects of the business. Works on or serves as a resource on projects requiring advanced knowledge of a particular field of specialization. Reports directly to the Manager of PM-HD regarding technical and commercial aspects of the business. II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Monitors and navigates environmental regulation, market and technology trends to support the automobile and aftertreatment industry, mainly for N.A. but also including other key market respective. Assist with the design, select and maintain critical information on products and technology. Maintaining quality and timeliness of answers to customer inquiries, problems and / or complaints. Provides input on the concept of technical support and product development for N.A. Monitors key market and customers' future technical requirement and suitable NGK's technology option. Provides technical aftertreatment requirement and new product introduction proposals to NGK / Japan product development / management. (NGK development strategy 5 year; 10 year; beyond). Develops business relations with key customers and build a network of business partners in N.A. Coaters; canners, universities, testing / analysis facilities. Provides input and development direction on key issues related to customers and competitors on both technical and commercial aspects of the business. Suggests planning, direction, coordination and reporting of for technical activities, while achieving optimum use of materials, and facilities. Advises engineers to achieve customer’s key program milestones and deliverables. Provides input and development direction on essential testing needs with external testing facilities for NA market / customer needs. Monitors competitor performance and recommend technology development strategies as required. Anticipates possible future actions of the competition. Produce timely issuance of technical service reports and the proper dissemination of information. Participate in product and technical preparation and plan its introduction for evaluation throughout customer projects. Participate in investigation results of evaluated parts to meet customer’s desired goal. Prepares and controls assigned budget, forecasts operating costs and directs preparation of budget requests. Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures, and objectives regarding processes, initiatives, and projects. Participates actively at conferences as a speaker / presenter or participant. Performs various other duties, as required by superior. III. QUALIFICATIONS Education / Training : B achelor's degree Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering preferred. Experience : 3 - 7 years of direct Commercial and Engineering experience or equivalent. Experience in automotive aftertreatment business preferred. Skills / Aptitude : - Excellent program / project management and time management skills. - Effective oral and written communication / reporting skills , excellent inter-personal skills. - Curiosity to ask questions and view the details as well as the big picture. - L ead and direct the work of others. - Apply organizational theories to solve various technical & business issues. - Identify and avoid potential problems using quantitative techniques. - Leverage advanced skills and knowledge to succeed as a business leader. Work Environment : Office and testing environment. Overtime may be required to meet program / project deadlines. Physically able to participate in presentations, and meetings.
