Job Description
The Pipeline Technician will work under the Pipeline Operations Engineer. The Pipeline Technician will be responsible for performing duties related to general pipeline construction, operation, and maintenance of an oil and gas pipeline system.
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential functions are identified in bold and italicized text below.)
  • Must work safely at all times.
  • Perform accurate timekeeping in HR management system and submit on time per payroll deadlines.
  • Work independently to repair and maintain all pipelines as needed and perform work incidental to the daily operations and maintenance of all pipelines under the direction of the Pipeline Operations Engineer.
  • Calibrate flow meters.
  • Troubleshoot, test, maintain and repair pipeline equipment, which may include valves, operators and filtration systems.
  • Drive product through the pipeline.
  • Monitor connection points.
  • Verify accuracy of flow meters.
  • Perform all duties associated with maintaining line integrity and safe operations.
  • Perform valve inspections and associated documentation to ensure proper operation.
  • Ensure company safety standards are always reached.
  • Must attend all safety meetings and trainings.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required.
  • Coordinate with third party and company personnel for excavations, crossings and digs of company pipelines.
  • Assist in new pipeline projects.
  • Provide status updates on current projects.
  • May be required to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
Position Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in oil and gas construction.
  • Strong leadership skills managing people and projects.
  • Experience in directing and overseeing the work of other employees.
  • Proficient spoken and written English.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Punctual, trustworthy and reliable.
  • Courteous manners with the public, customers and coworkers.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a positive representative of the Company both internally and externally.
  • Very strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must work well under pressure.
  • Must have the ability to make quick, wise and effective decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and customers.
Experience/Education
  • High school diploma / GED is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of pipeline operation and installation experience is required; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Technical experience in pipeline automation is preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and auto insurance is required.
Travel
Up to 25% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to field locations where environment may vary significantly.

    • Reach with hands and arms above the head and to ground level;
    • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl or otherwise reach into confined spaces;
    • Push and pull material and equipment from one place to another;
    • Communicate with and exchange information verbally and in writing;
    • Work using repetitive motion.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work requires physical efforts associated with using the computer and phones to access information.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is:
  • Occasionally in an office environment.
  • Occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places.
  • Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, hand tools and small to medium-sized power tool use.
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • Regularly exposed to non-toxic propane fumes or airborne particles.
  • Regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
This position is required to be performed at the work site during regularly scheduled hours. Physical presence at the work site is required.
