Summary :
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the supervision of the accounting functions handled by their direct reports, which includes accounts payable, monthly financial packages, audit review, tax return review, HUD compliance and other matters related to finance and accounting for properties managed NHE. The Accounting Manager reports directly to the VP of Finance and is a member of the NHE Senior Management Team.
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises and supports Accountants in meeting deadlines
Ensures month-end closeout procedures are adhered to including calculation of management fees
Supervises and supports Accountants to accurately prepare and issue Properties financial statements by agreed upon dates
Reviews monthly financial packages for accuracy according to monthly schedule and sends to ownership
Monitors Properties cash balances and aging of payables to NHE and other vendors
Research and answers Regional Property Managers questions.
Audit draft review after the accountant, address findings, review surplus cash before accountant pays, review AJEs after accountant records. Notify the audit firm once the audit is finalized.
Post GPR on the 1st of each month
Set up management fees on new properties in Yardi
Ensures all business license, property taxes, and property insurance is paid timely and accurately
Prepare acquisitions and sales entries and record in Yardi after VP of Finance reviews
Work with VP of Finance on Property Accountant List updates and Month End Close updates
Coordinates Properties tax return preparation including but not limited to reviewing tax returns and preparing cover letters to owners requesting signatures on tax returns
Ensures that written performance evaluations of supervised employees are completed as required, provides continuous feedback on personnel performance issues, and takes immediate action to recognize achievements and address deficiencies or problems
Performs all other duties that may be assigned

Required
Minimum three years experience as Assistant Controller or Accounting Supervisor
At least two years supervisory experience
Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and accounting software systems
Proficiency in electronic accounting (payables, receivables, general ledger, journal entries, etc.)
Ability to work with little direction
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to read and understand financial statements
Organizational and follow-up skills

Preferred

IV. EDUCATIONAL AND / OR EXPERIENCE
Two-year certificate from college or technical school or bachelors degree. Three years general accounting experience required. Two years supervisory experience required.

Ability to express him or herself clearly, convincingly, and effectively. Speak in a clear, articulate, fluent manner. Uses precise dictation, good grammar, and well-constructed sentences.
