What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Development & CAE Engineer position at NHK?
Position Overview:
NHK International Corporation has an opening for a Senior Development & CAE Engineer at 46855 Magellan Drive, Novi, Michigan 48337. 40 hrs/wk. 9am – 5pm. M-F.
Responsibilities: Support the development and improvement of beneficial tools and systems used for both design and manufacture of spring products; coordinate small team activities in assigned areas; support continuous improvement throughout the entire NHK Suspension Spring Division by identifying opportunities for improvement and creating innovative solutions; propose and bring to market innovative technical improvement development projects for both design and manufacture of suspension spring related products within NHK Group; lead and complete assigned solid body FEA tasks handled by the US/Japan based analysis teams using provided FEA and optimization software tools in a timely manner; write reports based on analysis results, and explain/present those results systematically to others; and track project work time. Up to 10% domestic/international travel to company affiliates and/or customer sites in Mexico, China, Japan. The duration of each domestic trip is 3 days per trip / up to 4 trips per year. The duration of each international trip is 7 days per trip / up to 2 trips per year.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or foreign degree equivalent, plus 5 years of post-baccalaureate progressively responsible experience in Product Design Engineer or Product Engineer positions in the automotive industry; OR Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or foreign degree equivalent, plus 3 years of experience in Product Design Engineer or Product Engineer positions in the automotive industry. Experience must include: product design of automotive coil springs and stabilizer bars; global automotive OEM suspension spring requirements; spring engineering theory including functions, attributes and stress calculations; linear/non-linear solid body FEA, elastic/plastic material response, and fracture mechanics of suspension spring components; suspension spring manufacturing process flow and techniques required to achieve production feasibility and optimize for manufacturing productivity; and utilize CATIA V5 and Siemens NX 3D CAD software for assembly manipulation to support FEA studies.
